How to Play Roulette

Roulette was been with us for over 200 hundred years, thrilling all casino guests with its unpredictability and great number of betting options which made it famous for. Little has change with this popular game of chance since its inception of modern roulette in 1796. The moment dealer calls 'no more bets' then starts spinning the wheel followed by spinning the ball in another direction, all eyes are focus on the direction of the ball here it is headed to land on the winning number. You could hear a pin drop just moments before the winning number and color is announced. This is the excitement it produces in the game of roulette.

One must know that roulette casinos are not same everywhere. The game is played by betting on numbers, combinations, range and then finally colors. Betting and winning for a single number gives the player 36 times more cost of the ticket. Of course, it is no less than a lottery!

Roulette Table Layout:

The Roulette Table has spaces colored and numbered to correspond with the colors and numbers of the wheel compartments.

Bettors have a choice of placing inside or outside bets. The Inside Bet is a wager on the numerical symbols or combinations of numbers ranging from 1 to 36, including 0 and 00.

Outside bets include segments of one third of the possible numbers to come up, excluding 0 and 00. These bets pay you 2 to 1, meaning if you bet $1 and the number comes up within the group you bet on you win $2 plus you keep your original bet of $1.

Also on the outside are options to wager on the numbers 1 to 18 or 19 to 36; even or odd; red or black. These pay 1 to 1 and are known as even money bets. They exclude the 0 and 00, which increases the house advantage and makes these bets less than a fifty/fifty chance.

Inside Bets
There are several inside bets that you can make. You can bet a number straight up or straddle the line between numbers to select a combination of numbers. The payouts are as follows.

Straight Up bet is a wager on a single number. It pays 35 to 1.

Split Bet is a wager on two numbers and it pays 17 to 1. You make this bet by placing your chip so it straddles the line between any two numbers.

Street bets or line bet and it pays 11 to 1. You make this bet by placing your chip on the vertical line separating the outside and inside betting areas. The chip straddles the first number in the row.

Corner bet or Quad bet pays 8 to 1. You make this bet by placing a chip so it is touching the four corners of the numbers you are betting.

Basket bet is a five number bet on zero – double zero and numbers-1-2-3 which pays 6 to 1. On the double zero wheel it has a house edge of 7.89 percent making it the worst bet in Roulette.

Double Street bet is a wager on six numbers and pays 5 to 1. You place your chip on the line separating the outside and inside area as you do for the street bet but let it also straddles the row above or below.

Outside Bets
The outside bets are any of the bets made in the boxes surrounding the numbers.

Red Black Odd and Even are all even money bets. You place your chips in the boxes on the layout.

Dozens bet are made on the 12 consecutive numbers. You place your wager in the boxes marked 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. These bets pay 2 to 1. If the zero or double zero comes up you lose.

Column bets are also 12 number bets. Instead of 12 consecutive numbers they consist of the numbers in one of the three vertical columns and are made in the boxes at the bottom of the layout. These bets pay 2 to 1 as well.

How to Start Playing Roulette:

To start playing Roulette, first you need to place a bet. The chip values in Roulette are $1, $5, $25, and $100. You can select any combination of chips to bet per click from $1 up to $500 by clicking on the different chip denominations. When you have reached your desired bet amount in the "Amount to bet per click" area, you can place individual bets equal to the bet amount selected by clicking different locations on the table. The total amount you can bet per spin is $500 for Inside Bets and $500 for Outside Bets. Once you have placed your bet(s) the ball starts spinning in the Roulette wheel.

American and European Roulette

Roulette is basically available in two different varieties, American and European. The only difference is that the American roulette wheels have two zeros, whereas its European counterpart only has one. Choosing the right wheel is a simple but very important part of a winning roulette strategy. Since both versions are generally available online, there is no reason whatsoever to play American roulette based on the odds.

Some casinos also offer the outstanding "en prison" rule, which means that if the player makes an even-money bet and the ball lands on zero, the player's bet is "imprisoned". If the imprisoned bet wins on the following spin, the player gets his chips back. Another optional rule gives the players half of their money back if the ball lands on zero. Both of these alternative rules are equal in value, and if you find any of them - be sure to make a note of it.
